Sky's The Limit
The North Main Mural Project was
directed and coordinated by Reginald Adams,
co-founder of ArtworkZ, a public art and community development program. The mural was sponsored in part by Keep Houston
Beautiful, Diverse works, Monarch Paint, local restaurants, and civic leaders from the
near north main area of Houston. Reginald
Adams was selected to be the primary artists and project coordinator for the community
mural project that involved 13 students from Jefferson Davis High School. The mural titled, Skys the Limit, is
located alongside the south wall of the Sand Dollar Thrift Store, North Main/Quitman.
During a week of design sessions the
students discussed ideas, made sketches, and simply brainstormed about what the mural
would be about. With Reginalds guidance
the student transformed their ideas into a scale design of a surrealistic reflection of
their outlook on the issues of their generation. This
thought provoking mural was painted over a two-week period and upon its completion the
entire community came together to celebrate the students and their contribution to the
history of public art.
