Carnegie Elementary School SPARK Park April 1998 Carnegie
Elementary School SPARK Park began the legacy for the Art Angels Healing Arts
Program. In 1998, founding artist,
Rhonda Radford-Adams was commissioned by the Mayor’s Office SPARK Park program
to work with the entire school body, 500+ students, at Carnegie Elementary
School to create hand painted ceramic tiles and mosaics for the schools outdoor
classroom and other elements of the school park. Using the theme,
Animals that Fly, Radford-Adams created tile mosaic designs of birds,
insects, fish, reptiles, and animals that have the unique capability to fly.
The students were encouraged to use their own imaginations towards
creating personalized tile pieces that reflected the concept of having the
ability to soar to new heights using the power of education.
